SARA STRÖMBERG
SARA STRÖMBERG [born in 1975] is an author who grew up in Västerbotten and Jämtland in the north of Sweden. She works as an author and freelance journalist in the town of Östersund where she also resides with her family.
Sara made her debut as an author in 2021 with the crime novel Sly, featuring the journalist Vera Bergström from Jämtland. The books have been praised by both readers and critics. Sly earned her the Swedish Crime Academy Award for Best Debut Crime Novel. The sequel, Skred, was named Best Swedish Crime Novel of 2022 (and nominated for best Nordic Crime Novel), the third book, Skinn, was also nominated for the same award and the fourth book, Sot, won the price for Best Swedish Crime Novel – again – in 2025. Four books, four nominations – and three wins!
So far, the book series has sold over half a million copies in Sweden and has been sold to nine additional countries, where it has also ranked high on bestseller lists.
Sara is currently writing on the fifth, and for now, the last book about Vera Bergström. It is set for release in Sweden autumn 2026.
SLY
SLY (Swedish title) is Sara Strömberg’s first book featuring the anti-hero Vera Bergström. A grand suspense debut in the spirit of Swedish author Åsa Larsson, set in a place where urban tourism has taken over, where the winners take it all, and the losers fall.
Sly was released in Sweden by Modernista on August 25, 2021.
Sara was awarded the prize for “Best crime debut of the year” in 2021 by the Swedish Crime Academy for Sly.
The book has also been praised by critics in newspapers, blogs, and social media, featured on a number of TV channels, and was nominated for “Debute of the year” in both Adlibrispriset and Crimetime Award and has sold well over 200.000 copies in Sweden.
It was also one of the 12 nominees for the biggest prize of them all “Book of the year” (all genres).
SKRED
SKRED (Swedish title) is the second book about journalist Vera Bergström, and just like the first, it unfolds in the villages on the outskirts of the ski resort and tourist magnet of Åre Village.
Skred has also been praised with fantastic reviews on TV, radio, newspapers, and social media, being called “even better.” It won the Swedish Crime Academy’s major award for “Crime Novel of the Year 2022”.
Skred was also nominated for the Storytel Awards and “The Glass Key 2023” – the award for the best Nordic crime literary work.
Skred was released by Modernista förlag on August 15, 2022.
SKINN
SKINN (Swedish title) is the third book in the series. This time the setting is Storlienfjällen (the mountains around Storlien village in the municipality of Åre).
Skinn has also been praised in media and has been called “the best book in the series”. Once again nominated to “Crime Novel of the Year” in 2023. It was also one of three finalists in the crime category in Storytel Awards.
Skinn was released by Modernista on October 23, 2023,
SOT
SOT (Swedish title) is the fourth book in the series and was released by Modernista on August 22, 2025.
It was awarded ”Best Crime Novel of the year” 2025.
The fifth (yet unnamed) book is set for release in the autumn of 2026.
SLAM
SLAM (Swedish title) is the fifth book in the series and is set for release by Modernista on August 25, 2026.

In addition to her crime novels, Sara Strömberg is also the author of a series of eight children’s books about Birger -the little lake monster. For these, she, along with her husband and illustrator Anders Nilsson, was awarded Östersund’s cultural prize in 2015.
